The largest malaysia student gathering at the start of the year, MSO’s Welcoming Reception was our chance to get to know our members and for everyone else to get to know each other. This semester’s theme was about unity, the unity of the 14 states of Malaysia. There were five booths, each representing a general sector of Malaysia with mini-games/activities to get lucky draw tickets. Later that evening, we served Char Kway Teow, a South-East Asian dish featuring stir-fried flat rice noodles as well as chocolate pastries from the Pop-up caterers. Syrup also made it’s appearance into the event, with the exception that it ran out fairly quickly due to high demand. Family feud was a blast with 4 teams and 3 rounds, the mixture of funny and unpredictable answers made the evening quite an engaging one. When it came time for the lucky draw, we could sense the excitement from the crowd, each eager to head home with a prize in hand. Of course the event didn’t end without having the final prize being re-drawn, which raised everyone’s spirits as a portable vacuum was on the line.
